Cavish has always believed that literacy and education play vital role in empowering the communities. Moreover, education and literacy also faciliate in promoting gender equality and human rights. Cavish
Objectives:

* Ensure access of local community to education /non formal education in Cavish program areas.
* Improve the quality of education in primary schools through trainings in Cavish program areas
* Improve literacy in Cavish program areas

Cavish's literacy model

REFLECT Approach:Cavish is one of the pioneers of the REFLECT Approach to literacy in Pakistan. Regenerated Freirian Literacy through Empowering Community Techniques (Reflect) is a new approach to adult literacy .which fuses the theory of Paulo Freire and The practice of participatory Reflection and Action, Reflect aims to contribution to the empowerment of non-literate people, who often are among the least privileged. In order to so, the approach draws on various methodological tools and theatrical ideas. The Brazilian educator, Paulo Freire radicalized a whole generation of mass-literacy workers and campaigns in 1960s by linking literacy to social change .Freire criticized existing literacy teaching which was based on primers “there is an implicit concept of man in the primer’s method and content , whether it is recognized by the authors or not…. It is the teacher who chooses the words and the proposes them to the learners… the students are to be “filled” with the words the teacher have chosen .it is the profile of a man whose consciousness …must be filled or fed in odder to know; Freire condemned this” banking” concept of education by saying that, ;As understood in this concept, man is a passive begin the object of the process of learning to read and write, and its not its subject”.
REFLECT is an evolving community literacy process, which facilitates local people in analysis of their problems, situation and environment stressing on empowerment through social organization and communication. Community people learn literacy by forming “circles” where they develop their own learning material through the construction of maps, matrices, calendars and diagrams that represent local reality.
Integration of Skill Development and Self-Growth: Skills Development focuses on functional education of women where their capacity is built in skills identified by them. These skills include the local indigenous embroidery skill of “Jisti” and “Phulkari”, stitching cutting and wool handicrafts. Women are encouraged towards enterprise development and marketing skills would be developed in partnership with other organizations that already have an expertise in this area. Total duration of skills circles is 6 months
Self Growth and Gender Sensitization aims at addressing the emotional health of women by initiating structured discussions on prevalent social discriminatory customs that give rise to violence against women. Issues such as self-esteem, self-confidence, self-awareness, anger and stress management, communication, power imbalances, etc., are part of the self-growth process.
