New Orleans Botanical Garden-Plant Collection Replacement Wishlist

The following list contains the initial assessment of plants
needed to replace our collection lost to Hurricane Katrina.
Our crape myrtles, crinums, bamboos, palms, and citrus generally
fared well through the flooding. We are still cautiously
optimistic about the fate of our collections of gingers and
ornamental grasses. (Update: many of our gingers now appear lost,
please check back in spring for a ginger listing.) We are still
assessing the ferns and our herb, vegetable and ornamental annual
seeds to compile a list, but all seem lost at this point. Although
the listed species, varieties, and cultivars were tested and grew
well here, we are also open to any donations of seeds, rooted
cuttings, and plants similar to these or additional plants that
would be expected to grow well in the New Orleans area (zone 9,
hot humid summers, mild winters often dipping just below 32°F).
Quantities listed are estimations relative to plant size and ease
of propagation. An updated plant request list will be available on
this page, www.neworleanscitypark.com/plantlist.html. Cash donations
are also accepted via our secure donation form.

Please email us with a listing of whatever plants you are able to
provide. For those outside the greater New Orleans area, we will
have to make arrangements for shipping as mail services remain
relatively unreliable in New Orleans. We also request that each
plant be identified when shipped if possible. Thank you for your
interest in helping us replant our garden.
