notes: The Jaigopal Garodia Jinendra PfA Hospital & Shelter for Animals This unit started functioning in April 2000 on 4 acres of land donated by Singhvi Charitable Trust. All rescued animals and abandoned pets are cared for their life time. Animal Birth Control and Immunisation Unit We battled and liased with the civic authorities for a whole year to change their policy of extermination of feral dog populations. Finally, we stopped the 70 yr brutal practice of electrocuting 20,000 stray dogs per year by the Chennai Corporation on Sept 24th 1996. And on Oct 2nd 1996, we implemented the WHO recommended ABC programme. We converted the Corporation Lethal Chamber (constructed in 1932 by RSPCA) into the PFA office and the Corporation Dog Pound into the ABC unit. Today we perform 5000 -6000 ABC surgeries / immunizations per annum.
