AmeriCorps is a vital part of the growing national service movement that follows in the footsteps of pioneer service programs such as the Depression era Civilian Conservation Corps, the Peace Corps, and VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America). Today, nearly 50,000 AmeriCorps members are engaged in a "domestic Peace Corps," getting things done in communities across America as they address our nation's challenges. Working in the areas of education, public safety, the environment, and health and human services, AmeriCorps members have the opportunity to make a real impact, gain invaluable life experience, and take steps toward their own future goals.
