Be a mentor to an at-risk youth, offering both friendship and academic help. The Volunteer Center of Los Angeles is seeking quality volunteers to dedicate a bit of their time to a child. Mentoring is simply spending some time with youth in a variety of activities. For example, sports, board games, reading, field trips homework, or good old fashion conversation! The program is based out of three elementary schools, Monlux, Kittridge, Erwin and two middle schools Madison Middle School, and St. Elisabeth Catholic Parish. Schools are located in the North Hollywood/Van Nuys Area. The purpose of our program is to improve student success for children who are vulnerable to educational failure by providing high quality, one to one mentoring relationships that promote academic excellence, post secondary education and positive life skills. High school students, seniors and community members are all welcome. One year commitment is required and must be willing to be fingerprinted. Sign up now for more details.
