First Responder, Volunteer needed by San Diego Volunteers

San Diego Volunteers trains its members to directly and indirectly support governmental fire professionals in a variety of basic fire prevention
and control techniques. During the wildfires of 2003 that ravaged the county of San Diego and its’ neighboring communities many citizens
complained that they were not given enough advance warning to evacuate their homes, with which to save mementos or other miscellaneous
items during their evacuation process. Often times people are able to cope with the sudden loss of a home, but it is the sudden loss of a
memento from a beloved relative or friend that has died, a family heirloom, a photo album, or simply a child’s teddy bear, that can often leave a
more indelible mark upon a persons’ psyche, that may be even more traumatic than the catastrophic event itself. San Diego Volunteers uses
its’ members in the following capacity;

Assist in Evacuation of person’s as directed by fire personnel.

Assist in implementing fire breaks.

Assist in patrolling “hot spot” areas in prevention of potential flare ups.

Assist in patrolling evacuated areas to report potential criminal activity.
