What is the Public Health Preparedness Team?

It is a program funded by the Centers for Disease Control through the Texas Department of State Health Services due to recent terrorist events. The purpose of this program is to work together with other agencies, such as Texas DSHS, law enforcement agencies, local hospitals, medical providers, city health departments, first responders, and school districts in establishing a public health response team to cover Cameron County and to prepare the public when dealing with terrorism and other public health threats and emergencies. Another main objective of this program is the proper surveillance and monitoring of highly infectious diseases such as meningitis and hepatitis.
