Mission: From their website:

The Costco Trade-In and Recycle Program is available only to members of Costco who elect to trade in or recycle any qualifying consumer electronic product currently offered by the program. The list of qualifying products is displayed on the trade-in platform home page. Based on the configuration and condition of your item, GreenSight will offer to purchase your item at the value displayed by the trade-in value estimator. All trade-in valuations are subject to final evaluation by GreenSight's technical staff. If your item does not qualify for any trade-in value, you will be offered the opportunity to recycle your item for free. Our recycling program employs a zero tolerance landfill policy meaning all of the material that is subject to recycling is disassembled by hand, carefully separated and eventually utilized as feedstock for various raw material extraction processes (including smelting and refining). Shipping for both trade-in and recycle items is free.

Notes:

This group operates a computer/electronics trade-in and recycling program in partnership with CostCo. The service is provided to Costco members by GreenSight Technologies, LLC (GreenSight), an independent third party. But Costco is not involved in individual transactions between GreenSight and Costco customers.

That being said, this group is one of the only offering free recycling of monitors, printers, and faxes. Of course, you can always send operating devices to a disaster sight by searching this Relief Database for sites that need a piece of equipment. Call 978 266 2778 to find out how.

To use the CostCo recycling program, follow the instructions at the website above. Note that to find the the page with the recycling info, you must choose a "technology type", like monitors, see that it's of no trade-in value, and on the bottom right, choose the button to find out more info about recycling. Or you can just read this, and call the number. Or email them. But their site has detailed "terms and conditions" that you might want to read. We'd have put the URL for the terms and conditions here, but they use some kind of java pop up window that doesn't provide the URL.

If you think your equipment has a "trade-in" value, then you might want to use their "value estimator", which can be found at the above website. Computers, Flat Panel Screens, Cameras, PDAs, etc. CRT monitors, printers, and fax machines are considered "valueless", but the company offers "free" recycling. Right now, that also includes free shipping, but you have to pay for the packaging, and bring it to the

Costco Recycle Program

If your item does not qualify for trade-in value it's probably because of its age or because of its condition. As technology changes, older items become obsolete and just don't work with today's newer and faster technology.

Recycling your old or non-functioning technology equipment - it's smart and safe. We encourage you to take advantage of our free shipping offer by completing each step in our value estimator even if the offered value for your product is zero.

Our recycling program employs a zero tolerance landfill policy meaning all of the material that is subject to recycling is disassembled by hand, carefully separated and eventually utilized as components for various raw material extraction processes (including smelting and refining). These raw materials are in turn used to produce new metal and plastic products.

Our primary goal is the complete and proper recycling of un-used material. Our services will allow you to confidently say that you have taken all necessary steps toward preventing out-of-use electronic equipment from entering the waste stream and damaging the environment.

For questions regarding the recycling process call our Help Desk at 800-955-2292 between 6am to 6pm PST weekdays; 8am to 5pm PST Saturday.
