Acton Public Health Nursing Service provides Certified Home Health (VNA) and Public Health Services to the town of Acton. This includes a full range of home heath care services to Acton residents including skilled nursing; physical, occupational and speech therapy; medical social services and home health aide assistance.

Acton Public Health Nursing Service is able to bill most insurance companies. Due to the complexity of the clinical documentation and billing requirements, APHNS recently converted to electronic medical records, with the staff accessing up-to-date information through the use of Palm Pilots.

Public Health Services offered include blood pressure and cholesterol screenings; as well as a variety of clinics, and funding an instructor for Smoking Cessation classes in the A-B regional schools. Walk -in services are provided at our office on the 2nd floor of Town Hall for adult and childhood vaccinations and blood pressure checks. We encourage people to call before coming to assure availability of a nurse to assist you.

Vaccines Available

Acton Public Health Nursing Service participates in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Vaccine Program and obtains the following vaccines from the state program. The following vaccines are available:

-Tetnus
-DTP - Diptheria, Tetnus and Pertussis
-MMR - Measles, Mumps and Rubella
-Hepatitis A (adult & child)
-Hepatitis B (adult and child)
-Polio (IPV)
-Varicella - Chickenpox
-Pneumococcal Pnemonia
-Influenza
-HIB - Haemophilus Influenza Type B

A fee of $20 is charged for the administration of the vaccine, but no one will be turned away for inability to pay. Our goal is to get all children the vaccines they need and for certain adult vaccines that qualify under the program.
