There are 10 Georgia counties that are included in the Florida relief operation. Damage assessment is ongoing in 18 counties, 90- 100% complete in 11 counties. With so many roads closed, many areas are still inaccessible, but as of last evening we are reporting 28 homes destroyed, 27 with major damage, 88 with minor damage, 82 affected and 72 inaccessible. There have been 8 shelters opened at one time or another but all are closed now. Less than 100 people registered overall and only 89 overnight stays. Most people stayed only 1-2 nights and the peak population at any one shelter was 36. Casework is just starting today. So far there are 78 cases reported open but the only assistance provided to date is to pay for hotel stays for families with a medical need or where there was only 1 family needing lodging in a county and the distance to the next shelter was too great. As we get a better feel for the needs, we will be letting you know.
