The nonprofit organization Cap Anamur - German Emergency Doctors Association, based in Cologne in 1979 launched, founded by Chris and Rupert Neudeck, and some of her friends, including Heinrich Böll. Since then, we provide worldwide humanitarian assistance, even in places where the media attention has long since subsided. Our focus is on the medical care and access to education.

Our actions are directed at the principle of sustainability. In war and crisis areas, we create structures that improve the lives of people in distress permanent: the repair and building of hospitals and schools, the education and training of local employees and the provision of construction materials, relief goods and medicines. After that, the faster we can give a project in the hands of local people, the better. Because the capacity is available for further operations.

Dramatic conditions in Haiti

Our medical professionals have a local support staff and the residents of the camps and the surrounding population in the simple but very effective hygiene measures to prevent cholera. It was built latrines and wells and improve drinking water supply. Locally we have the necessary medications and infusions, such as antibiotics and disinfectants and drinking water. We work with the Haitian American Health Ministry and other agencies and to the spread of infection are well prepared as we had expected since the natural disaster in January with the outbreak of an epidemic.

Yesterday, a team in the north of the country has gone to support a partner organization operating there of Cap Anamur in the treatment of cholera patients. In the by us during an earlier project built health center in Fondole patients can be supplied.

After the massive earthquake in January 2010 contributed Cap Anamur relief. Now we are engaged in the reconstruction, we have a devastated school building back to take care of health care in a hospital and several tent camps. The Caribbean state, we already know from a bet of 1994 to 1998. At that time the country was again on the brink of civil war. Cap Anamur had an irrigation project to restore the district Fondole and a budget project for cooking with solar energy.
