So far, we have opted to deploy our volunteers with JP/HRO and Konbit for Haiti is helping defray some volunteer costs. At the beginning of this crisis, we decided to spend our resources on providing a potable water distribution center in Roche-a-Bateau and to share whatever supplies we raise. So our available financial resources are allotted to that project not on leading medical teams on the ground. We thought it would be more effective to supplement another organization by sending them the volunteers that we’ve recruited so far. Les Cayes is GCF’s home base. If the situation is really as bad as TDH reports in Les Cayes, I am willing to change our approach and send our volunteers to them instead of JP/HRO . For supplies, HIC in Les Cayes needs supplies. If the situation is really as bad as TDH reports, I am willing to send our volunteers to them instead of JP/HRO. I’d much rather be pro-active about the situation too. But I feel strongly that I must cooperate with the people in charge…and gaining their trust is a very tricky thing. So far, I speak to the MSPP Regional Director every week…he knows that we are available to help…they have requested some supplies…so far, no request for resources to come down and work with them. We can talk/brainstorm on how to prepare and how to prevent the worst from happening anyway, with or without their request. Hope that helps!
