Specific jobs may include chainsaw work, yard cleanup, and home cleanup. Home cleanup involves removing all flood damaged contents including, furniture and appliances, flooring, and sheetrock/insulation. UPDATE: Every day we are having fewer clean-up jobs and more rebuild jobs signed up for. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your team. If you have a team that only wants to do clean-up jobs we will find jobs for you. Just keep in mind that our focus is shifting towards the rebuilding stage. b) Rebuilding – this involves assisting the church and community members with repairing their homes. We are specifically focusing on roofing, replacing insulation, hanging sheetrock, and painting. While these are the rebuilding jobs we are focusing on, if you or any member of your group has specialized skills outside such as electrical and plumbing, please let us know at the time of scheduling. Please note: For every 14 team members we are asking that two of those members remain at the church. One to assist with church cleaning and one to assist with kitchen staffing needs. 3) What are the housing/sleeping arrangements? We are using all available space in order to house as many volunteers as possible. Due to space limitations and separate accommodations for men and women, we ask that each person bring their own twin size air mattress or cot. (Please no double or queen sizes) As mentioned above men and women will have separate sleeping areas unless limited space necessitates a change. 4) I/We would like to bring a travel trailer. Is there anywhere to hook up at the church? Due to the fact that we have shower trailers and residential FEMA trailers on our property we cannot accommodate any other travel trailers at this time. If you are still interested in bringing your trailer you will need to make your own arrangements. To try to better serve our volunteers we have implemented a room and board plan. The room and board plan includes: Your housing needs Breakfast A sack lunch Dinner Your team may also wish to bring additional snack foods and bottled water to take on the job sites. 6) How much will the room and board plan cost per person? The cost is $10/person per day. Example. You have a total of 12 people coming for 3 days – your cost would be $10x12x3 = $360 We prefer that your sponsoring church issue one check for all members of your group. If this is not possible we would like to encourage you to pay by personal check instead of cash. All checks should be made payable to First Baptist Church Bay St. Louis– please note “Room and Board” on the memo line. You may be wondering why we have to charge at all. Honestly, we hate to have to charge your team anything. The amount we are asking for is only to cover what we are being charged for food. We have setup an account with a food service company and were told that our average cost would be $10 per person per day. If by chance, there is any amount left over, the amount will be used to offset the other additional costs of housing volunteers. 7) How may I find out if the dates our team wants to come are available? On the left hand column of our website you should see an events calendar. Any dates you see that are in blue are full. If you click the link below the calendar that says "This Month" you will reach a page where you can view other months. 8) The dates we want to come are marked FULL. These are the only dates we can come is there anything you can do? We appreciate your willingness to serve. The dates that are marked as FULL we have reached our maximum capacity and cannot book your team for those days. However, there are a couple of other options for your housing needs. How do we schedule our mission trip? You may go to our Volunteer Signup Page to request the dates for your team. 10) Our team is scheduled to volunteer at your church are there any other things we need to be aware of or bring? In addition to any snacks you and your team might want to bring, it is recommended that your team bring plenty of OFF bug spray. Besides destruction, Hurricane Katrina left some sort of killer gnats. Personally, I have had them bite even with plenty of bug spray on. Perhaps they are building an immunity to OFF. There is also a rumor that Skin-So-Soft lotion will keep them from gnawing through your skin, but I have yet to confirm this. Please don't let these gnat attacks frighten you and your team, the scarring is really not that noticeable. ->
