Mission: Our Medical Mission now goes to Haiti three times a year for two weeks or more. A team of volunteers covers each of the weeks. Each team normally consists of 12-14 people- a balance of doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, EMTs, lab technicians, and support people. A total of 24-48 volunteers is needed for each medical mission. We have volunteers from all over the United States including Alaska.

All the volunteers pay their own travel expenses. Lodging and meals are provided by our sister parish of St. Paul's Parish in Leon-the location of the Medical Mission. St. Paul's has been our sister parish in Haiti since 1987-part of the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas.

Approximately 2000 patients are seen during each mission and approximately 10,000 prescriptions are dispensed. Many of our medicines are donated, but others purchased from various medical mission suppliers in the U.S. and from a commercial pharmaceutical supplier in Haiti. We receive donations from local doctors, Catholic Medical Mission Board, and CrossLink International. The total cost for a two week mission is approximately $20,000. This is made possible from the generosity of the St. Francis of Assisi parishioners and other benefactors. Our parishioners also provide significant support to the needs of St. Paul's-operation of the church and school, in particular.

2/18/11: MSPP runs a CTU in a separate tent behind the clinic averaging 3-5 pts were reported during the present mission trip. It is run totally separate from the clinic.

This mission serves five weeks per year at the dispensary in Leon. The first week in October, and the first two weeks in February and June every year. Focus of mission is primary care. We see about 850 patients per week, have 6-7 physicians, have a laboratory and ultrasound. We have no surgical capability. We have no "specialty" capability. We are staff with Emergency and Family Physicians.

When the mission is not there, the Dispensaire is run by one nurse.

Only personal drinking water is purified through bucket system.
