Post #3 - MONETARY ASSISTANCE:
AMERICAN RED CROSS: The American Red Cross is offering, for those who qualify, limited financial assistance of $125 per person (example: family of four = $500). Red Cross assistance will be available to those who meet both of the following criteria:
They do not qualify for federal disaster assistance
They have had major damage or their home has been destroyed
People who may be eligible for Red Cross financial assistance should register online at redcross.org/LAfloodassistance or call (855) 224-2490. People who are deaf, hard of hearing or require accessible communications may text (571) 422-1144. If someone is still in a shelter, Red Cross workers will help with their registration. After someone registers, the Red Cross will contact them within 48 to 72 hours.
Caseworkers will verify the person’s identity, the number of people in the household, cross-check the person’s information with federal registration records, and validate the flooding damage to their home.

FEMA SERVICES: Services are available for survivors in the following parishes: Acadia, Ascension, Avoyelles, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Livingston, Point Coupee, St. Helena, St. James, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Vermilion, Washington, West Baton Rouge, West Feliciana.
FEMA urges flood victims to read denial letters carefully. Anyone in Louisiana with damage from the continuing severe storms and floods that began Aug. 11 may register two ways:
Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
By calling (800) 621-3362, People who use TTY may call (800) 462-7585, those who use 711 or Video Relay Service (VRS) may call (800) 621-3362.

**RENTERS may be eligible for grants FEMA to help with such disaster-related expenses as:
Renting a new place to live when the renter’s previous home was lost due to the disaster.
Disaster related medical and dental expenses.
Replacement or repair of necessary personal property lost or damaged in the disaster, such as appliances and furniture, textbooks and computers used by students, and work equipment or tools used by the self-employed.
Repair or replacement of vehicles damaged by the disaster.
Disaster-related funeral and burial expenses.
**RENTERS may qualify for a low-interest loan of up to $40,000 from the SBA to repair or replace personal property. Renters can apply for assistance at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Those who use 711 or video relay service can call 800-621-3362. The toll-free telephone numbers are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
HARDSHIP WAIVER: The Internal Revenue Service will grant the regulatory waiver. The hardship waiver will be in effect until January 17, 2017 to allow flood victims access to emergency funds to account for recent losses.
RECOVERY CENTERS: Survivors may register at any open DRC, even out of state. The centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day until further notice. Child care service is now available for Louisiana survivors while they are visiting the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at Celtic Studios in Baton Rouge. Parents of children ages 3-12 may use the free child care service while they conduct business at the Disaster Recovery Center. The child care service is not a day care and children cannot be left at the Disaster Recovery Center. Upon check in, a parent is given a numbered badge that is identical to one placed on his or her child. This badging process ensures that only the child’s parent can check the child out of the care service. The disaster center at Celtic is open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

STATE SALES TAX RETURNS: Louisiana residents in presidential declared disaster areas impacted by the March and August floods can file for a refund of state sales tax they paid on personal property destroyed by the floods.
