Notes: Hands On Gulf Coast is a disaster response project of Hands On Network - a network of 62 nonprofit organizations around the world that inspire volunteers, create leaders, and change lives and communities through effective volunteer action. Hands On Network's ongoing efforts in the Gulf region have been bolstered by a unique partnership with The Home Depot and other members of the Corporate Service Council, an alliance of 53 Fortune 500 companies and civic organizations committed to changing the face of corporate volunteerism throughout North America.

Hands On Network took over operations from Hands On USA in February of 2006. Hands On USA was founded a week after Hurricane Katrina by Dave Campbell. He and a small group of people came to Biloxi to help residents during the initial response to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina. Where needs went unmet, Hands On USA unleashed the creative energy of dedicated volunteers of all ages to solve those problems. Hands On became a place volunteers to come live, work, and experience.

Due to the flexibility of the organization and the creativity of the volunteers, Hands On established itself as one of the most effective disaster response organization in Biloxi. The city of Biloxi recognized Hands On's contributions and awarded the organization a key to the city on January 30, 2006.
