Volunteers manning one of the organization's mobile food canteens have been going out daily since last Monday, December 28th, offering blankets, gloves, socks and hats to the homeless. To date, more than 600 individuals have been served. The Salvation Army will continue to bring provisions to the homeless every day until the cold spell breaks. Three emergency mobile feeding units (canteens) are on the scene in Greensburg, a town that was 95% destroyed. One canteen is based in Truesdale, which also received damage. Each canteen is capable of serving up to 2,000 people per day. The canteens have been providing food and beverages to hundreds of search and rescue crews and law enforcement personnel including the National Guard and the Kansas State Highway Patrol. �In addition to serving law enforcement and other emergency responders, we will also be providing nourishment to residents of Greensburg today, as they are being allowed back into the town for a few hours to search for their belongings,� said Brian Carroll, service extension director for The Salvation Army, Kansas and Western Missouri Division.
