For more than 60 years, we've worked to establish strong partnerships with local pastors and leaders throughout the island nation, ensuring that we work with godly, compassionate people who understand the needs of their communities. The pastors understand better than anyone the people in their communities and they are able to distribute food and supplies in an orderly, humane manner. So when it came time to begin distributing food to rural villages, we wasted no time in getting up and running. Today, we reached out to Bolosse and the surrounding areas of Fermathe, BHM's headquarters. Pastor Soimeus from the Fermathe church organized the local food distribution. So when it came time to begin distributing food to rural villages, we wasted no time in getting up and running. Today, we reached out to Bolosse and the surrounding areas of Fermathe, BHM's headquarters. Pastor Soimeus from the Fermathe church organized the local food distribution. Reports have come in from the rural districts where BHM serves, and cholera has struck several of our partner churches. Local pastors reported that between 10 and 15 people have died from Cholera in their congregations, and they are seeking help to prevent more deaths. We have already assembled basic hygiene supplies and disinfectants to help stem the spread of the disease in the affected districts. Though international news agencies are reporting that the spread of Cholera is slowing, local pastors indicate that the rural areas where we serve are still under siege, and we are preparing for the worst. This is the first Cholera outbreak Haiti has experienced in over 100 years, and it has left many health officials scrambling to control the spread of the disease.
