Boat People SOS are working is Bayou La Batre, specifically serving the needs of the Vietnamese population. Another focus is Dolphin Island, where CC/Mobile received a grant from Alabama Power to provide the 1,300 resident with utility, rental, and mortgage assistance—where, to date, 30% (approximately 1,590 individuals) are in need of assistance). CC/USA staff have been deployed to Mobile to conduct an needs assessment with Mobile, Alabama staff. In collaboration with the United Way, Catholic Charities distributed 10,000 pounds of food to 230 families in 1 day. ============ Direct Aid Many families struggle because of losing jobs, fires, and other hardships. We are able to assist them with payment on utility bills, food, clothing, and medications with the following major illness categories: Asthma, Hypertension, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Mental Illness, Seizures, and Cholesterol. Services are limited to available funding. Clients may call for an appointment on Tuesday or Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. Thrift Store Shoppers at CSS Thrift Store enjoy low prices and quality merchandise. Store hours are 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Donations of clothes, linens, furniture and household items are received 5 days a week.
